Game theory: How to interact better & achieve stronger outcomes

CIPS and TWS Partners conducted their seventh annual survey, exploring the awareness, understanding, and application of game theory in procurement and supply.

The results show a continuing upward trend in the discovery and application of game theory. More and more procurement and supply professionals are adopting game theory to help them in their strategic interactions.

In particular, they’re applying game theory for negotiations and sourcing. They see it as a force that can drive down costs, improve supplier relationships and empower procurement.

According to our survey, game theory is popular among those studying or pursuing professional development; they then spend more time applying it after their studies. This seems to reinforce not only the long-term pay-off of game theory, but the importance of continued professional development as a way of harnessing game theory’s potential.
