How to increase purchasing control and improve sustainability in a digital age

The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has been felt by businesses across the globe. Many organisations reduced investment in social and green initiatives to focus on core concerns such as security of supply and speed of delivery. 

Yet, changes in behaviour prompted by the pandemic – such as an increase in remote working and a steep uptick in the use of technology to perform jobs – are likely to stay well after lockdowns are lifted. And so broader sustainability initiatives are expected to return to the fore in 2021. 

Indeed, it was found that two of the five key procurement trends for this year concern sustainability – and on the world stage, governments have been setting themselves stretching targets to cut carbon emissions and companies will be expected to play their part in helping to hit those.
